Starting or Growing a Business?

There is nothing small about the impact that entrepreneurs & small businesses have on Michigan's economy.  In recent years, small businesses have provided much of the state's job growth and led the way in developing new technologies.  Improving the delivery of services to entrepreneurs and small firms is one of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation's (MEDC) top priorities.

The MEDC provides assistance directly to small businesses serving as:

  • A broker - MEDC's Customer Assistance staff connect you with people who can provide vital and valuable services and information for your business.
  • An advocate - MEDC works strategically with other organizations that offer services and assistance to Michigan's small companies and entrepreneurs.  We can help you access those services.
  • A problem-solver - MEDC's Michigan Business Ombudsman Office  helps companies troubleshoot problems with state government agencies.  Business Ombudsman also provide customized assistance on a variety of business issues from tax abatements to workers' compensation cost control.
