Training (MMTC)

ICEA works closely with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation to aid in job training.

Michigan is an active participant in maintaining a highly trained, skilled labor force. Its approach, resources and results are unmatched by any state in the nation. In recent years Michigan has developed trend-setting programs to deliver job training assistance to employers. Employers are at the front end, designing their own customized employee training programs and working in partnership with schools, government agencies and other community resources to develop the most effective worker readiness programs in the United States. Grants averaging $1,000 per new employee and $500 per existing employee can be used to train or upgrade skills.

Michigan's annual Economic Development Job Training (EDJT) Program provides $30 million to companies that need to train or retrain workers to meet marketplace needs. This program is a major feature of the state's economic development incentive package. The employer must match 25% of the state grant. Under this program, the employer works with private or public education providers to design the training.
